Marketplace
The problem
Small sellers juggle spreadsheets, direct messages and three payment apps. Buyers can't trust stock levels or delivery dates, so they leave. The platform has to be simple for a seller with no technical help and trustworthy for a stranger paying them.
The system
One Next.js codebase serves the storefront and the seller dashboard. Postgres holds the catalogue and orders, with an append-only ledger so any payout can be rebuilt line by line. Stripe Connect splits payments between seller and platform, and webhooks go through an idempotent queue so a retry can never charge twice. Search starts on Postgres full-text and only moves to a dedicated engine when the catalogue demands it.
What success looks like
A seller can list a product in under two minutes. Buyers see accurate stock. Finance can reconcile any payout to the cent from the ledger. We'd track time-to-first-listing, checkout completion and payout disputes.
